TO UNSUBSCRIBE FROM A LIST:

Send a message to the list-request@tanzanet.org on the server. Enter "unsubscribe LIST" in the subject field. You can also send a message to "LIST-request" with a subject of "unsubscribe". While you should NOT send your unsubscribe command to the list itself, Listar will attempt to trap such erroneous postings and forward them to the list administrators for proper handling.

TO GET A DIGEST EVERY DAY:

Send a blank email to the listar account (list-request@tanzanet.org) on the server with a subject of "set LIST digest". This will turn on digests, and you will receive a digest however often the server is configured to send them.

Instead of receiving individual messages throughout the day, digest mode allows TANZANET subscribers to receive several message grouped together as a single email (depending on the amount of messages being sent, however often the server is configured to send them).

TO STOP GETTING A DIGEST:
Send a message to the listar account (list-request@tanzanet.org) on the server with a subject of "unset LIST digest". This will turn off digest mode, and instead you will receive an eMail every time something is posted to the list.

TO GO ON VACATION:

Send a message to the listar account (list-request@tanzanet.org) on the server with a subject of "set LIST vacation". You will remain subscribed to the list and allowed to post, but will not receive any eMail as long as this flag is set.

TO COME BACK FROM VACATION:
Send a message to the listar account (list-request@tanzanet.org) with a subject of "unset LIST vacation".

** WHY DOES TANZANET MAILING LIST KEEP SETTING ME TO VACATION MODE? **
A short explanation: Our new list software automatically does this whenever messages come back to bounce@tanzanet.org, seven days consecutively, because they could not be delivered to your address. This may happen because your mailbox is full, or because of some technical problem at your internet provider. The VACATION mode flag may be unset as normal (see "TO COME BACK FROM VACATION"). If it keeps getting set by the system, consult your internet provider and ask them why your account is bouncing messages.

** 'I THINK I'VE BEEN UNSUBSCRIBED.' OR 'IS THE LIST DOWN?' **

First, here's what NOT to do: PLEASE DO NOT SEND TEST MESSAGES TO THE ML!!!

If you think the list is down, DON'T email the list!!! Ask one of the Listmanagers(listmanager@tanzanet.org) privately. Alternatively, E-mail another subscriber, and ask whether they have been receiving list mail.

Remember, if the list is down and you send a test message, you're just making matters worse.

If you think you may have been unsubscribed, the easiest thing to do is to TO CHECK ON YOUR OWN STATUS:

Send a message to the listar account (list-request@tanzanet.org) on the server with a subject of "stats LIST". You will get a list of all the flags currently set on your account, which is also a confirmation that the list is up and running.

TO GET A LIST OF COMMANDS AVAILABLE:

Send a message to the listar account (list-request@tanzanet.org) on the server with a subject of "commands". An eMail will be sent to you with all the commands that the server and any installed modules offer.
